Split Garbanzo Beans (Chana Dal)


Garbanzo Beans (also known as Chickpea, Chana). Garbanzo beans are found in two forms, the smaller dark-skinned beans and white-skinned beans. Garbanzo beans are consumed as whole beans, as split lentils and a multitude of dishes are also made with garbanzo bean flour (known as besan).

Channa Dal is a ready supply of proteins for a balanced diet containing little or no meat. It is nutty flavor and sweet, this dal is amongst the most famous dal in India. Channa Dal contains a mild sweet taste when cooked and is rich nutritious. These are like the yellow pigeon peas I always buy as split and de-skinned. Though lentils make delicious daals and other dishes, my favorite way to use them is in making authentic Puran Poli.
